Undergraduate Programs
An academic advisor is assigned to every newly registered faculty student of Gazi university. The academic advisor carries out this job from the first day of the student to his/her graduation from the faculty. All the procedures for appointing advisors are carried out by the programme. The academic guidance that the advisor provides for the student may cover the following:
• Course selection for Fall and Spring semesters
• Course add/drop
• Preparation and control of weekly course schedule of the student during the course selection
• Course selection from an upper grade level
• Selection of elective course(s)
• Course selection from the Summer semester (if the student chooses courses from the Summer semester)
• Exemptions from courses (if applicable to the student)
• Information sources about the academic calendar, Gazi University regulations concerning instruction, attendance, assessment, etc.
• Information about the student’s department, and programme, head of the department, director of the program
• Information for make-up procedures for exams unattended due to officially recognised excuses
The advisor provides the same guidance to Erasmus and/or Farabi mobility student(s) if the student(s) is/are assigned to the advisor.
Graduate programs
An academic advisor is assigned to every newly registered institute student of Gazi University. The academic advisor (a) carries out this job from the first day of the student to his/her graduation from the institute if the advisor is at the same time the thesis advisor of the student, or (b) transfers the student to another faculty member who has been appointed as the thesis supervisor of the student. If the student's thesis topic requires more than one supervisor, a second supervisor may be appointed. The supervisor(s) is/are appointed from amongst the faculty members. All the procedures for appointing advisors and supervisors are carried out by the managing board of the institute. The academic guidance that the advisor provides for the institute student may cover the following:
• Course selection for Fall and Spring semesters
• Course add/drop
• Selection of elective course(s)
• Information sources about the academic calendar, institute regulations concerning instruction, attendance, assessment, etc.
• Information about the student’s department, and programme,
• Regulations about thesis proposal and format
• Thesis committee meetings (for doctoral students)
• Research methods
• Thesis defence procedures
The advisor provides the same guidance to Erasmus mobility student(s) if the student(s) is/are assigned to the advisor.
