Programme Information
The Department of Archaeology was established under the Faculty of Literature in 2003. The department has been running postgraduate degrees since 2004. Departmental courses are offered within a single curriculum that consists of disciplinary sub-sections such as Prehistorical Archaeology, Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology, and Classical Archaeology. Our academic members are composed of teaching staff who are specialized in their own respective fields in accordance with the aforementioned disciplinary sub-sections. As of 2012, our academic staff includes two professors, one associate professor, three assistant professors, three lecturers and one research assistant. Our graduate program curriculum offers courses that focus on Anatolian Archaeology within a period starting from Prehistorical Ages to Middle Ages. The curriculum also comprehensively covers Anatolia’s relations and interaction with surrounding regions and cultures in order to prepare our students with a general archaeological formation. Since the establishment of the department, in addition to their teaching functions, our academic staff has been involved in other academic activities and has been conducting excavations and surveys, serving as scientific consultants and delegation members in museums’ rescue excavations.
