Understanding the relationship between sustainable and high quality of high settlements and physical environment
Perceiving the basic principles of settlement design taking into consideration the land characteristics and natural processes
Gaining the ability to interpret and apply air conditioning, energy and comfort issues in planning and design of environmental systems

 --WEEKLY SCHEDULE
1. Week  Introduction and general information about the course. Concepts and elements related to physical environment in planning
2. Week  Topography (natural systems affected by topography, reading, interpretation of topography, relationship between topography and land use planning
3. Week  Topography analysis (slope, aspect, elevation)
4. Week  Geomorphology, Soil, Soil conservation and planning relationship, analysis (L.U.C. Class, Soil types, Erosion)
5. Week  Hydrology, Hydrogeology
6. Week  Climate and climate elements, thermal comfort, design principles compatible with climate in settlements in different climatic zones
7. Week  Midterm exam
8. Week  Flora, Fauna
9. Week  Thermal comfort in open spaces, design variables for built environment
10. Week  Lighting - Visual comfort, design variables for the built environment effective in light control
11. Week  Noise control - Definitions, sound, human health and noise relationship, acoustic comfort, design variables built environment in noise control
12. Week  Energy efficient planning and design
13. Week  Midterm exam
14. Week  Introduction of standards and regulations (noise regulation etc.)
15. Week  Review of urban pattern
16. Week  General discussion of the semester
