By the end of this course, students will develop an understanding of the classical and contemporary theories and perspectives of child development.
They will understand the historical trajectory of the developmental study
They will understand the basic developmental concepts, and developmental stages from birth through kindergarten.
They will understand the biological and cultural foundations of childhood development.
They will understand prenatal development, and developmental features of the newborn.
They will understand the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social developmental features in infancy and toddlerhood.
They will understand the language development and development of symbolic thought in the early years.
They will understand the importance of conceiving development in the context of familial, social-cultural, and historical processes.
They will understand the formative role of an affectionate, caring adult-child relations in the early years.
