UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS

For Turkish students

The process of student placement to associate and undergraduate degree programs of Higher Education Institutions is administered by Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK) with the help of Placement Examination. This examination consists of two stages. The first stage of this examination is called Examination for the Transition to Higher Education (YGS) and the second stage is named as Undergraduate Student Placement Examination (LYS). The candidates that get 140 points out of 500 in Examination for the Transition to Higher Education (YGS) are able to enter Undergraduate Student Placement Examination (LYS). Undergraduate Student Placement Examination (LYS) comprises the tests of Maths, Science, Foreign Language, Social Sciences and Literature- Geography. The students just attend the tests that are related to their own fields, and the candidates who get 180 points out of 500 are supposed to apply for the programs that accept students with relevant kinds of points. The candidates are placed into the undergraduate programs by Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) regarding the points they get from YGS and LYS, and their grade point average (high school grade point average in Turkish education system). In our university, students are accepted to the Faculty of Fine Arts, Gazi Education Faculty, School of Physical Education and Sports, Faculty of Art and Design and State Conservatory of Turkish Music with the help of an Aptitude Test in accordance with the rules determined by Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) and the principles determined by the related department and approved by the University Senate.

The students that undergo the process of placement are required to register on the dates that are determined by Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) and announced by related universities.

For International Students

“Examination for International Students (YÖS)” that is administered by ÖSYM for international students has been abolished since 2010-2011 education period. Yet, considering the central exam results administered in their native countries and their high school grade point average in the light of the principles determined by the Presidency of Gazi University Higher Education Council and the University Senate,
The application of those
1. Who hold a citizenship other than Republic of Turkey
2. Who hold the citizenship of the Republic of Turkey or the citizenship of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and who have completed their whole high school education in another country other than TRNC will be processed and the applicants will be placed into previously announced vacancies in accordance with their preferences.

ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAMS

Apart from high school or vocational high school diplomas, in accordance with the result of the Student Selection and Placement Examination, the preference of the student, and high school grade point average, the student will be placed into a program. Graduates of vocational high schools are eligible for registration to the relevant program without any exam results provided that they are applying to a program that they have a high school degree in.

GRADUATE PROGRAMS

The number of candidates to be taken to a written examination or an interview will be limited to the triple of the announced vacancies. The points that are obtained from the total points of Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) or 50 % of the equivalent exam, Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS) / Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) or 15 % of the equivalent exam and undergraduate cumulative grade point average are ranked starting from the highest one. The foreign language exam score of the candidates that do not have a foreign language exam score is accepted as zero. The entrance point for the programs of Masters with thesis and Masters in Arts is calculated in accordance with 50 % of Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) or the equivalent exam, 15 % of Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS) / Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) or the equivalent exam, 15 % of undergraduate cumulative grade point average and 20 % of written and/or practice exam. In the departments that do not have the criteria of having Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES), the entrance point is calculated with regard to 20 % of Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS) / Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) or the equivalent exam, 30 % of undergraduate cumulative grade point average and 50 % of written and/or practice exam. The points that are obtained in this way are ranked starting from the highest and registration is applied considering the quota that is announced. The candidates whose entrance success points are under 60,00 are considered as unsuccessful. Under the condition of having the equal entrance points, the candidates have the priority of being accepted in accordance with their Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES), undergraduate cumulative grade point, the result of written and/or practice exam or Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS) / Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) respectively. The candidates that do not attend the written exam are not evaluated. The results are announced by the related institution.

The success point for the entrance to non-thesis programs is calculated in compliance with 50 % of Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) and the equivalent exam, 25 % of Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS) / Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) or the equivalent exam and 25 % of undergraduate cumulative grade point average. In the departments that do not have the criteria of having Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES), ), the entrance point is calculated according to 30 % of Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS) / Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) or the equivalent exam, and 70 % of undergraduate cumulative grade point average. The points that are obtained in this way are ranked starting from the highest and registration is applied considering the quota that is announced. Under the condition of having the equal entrance points, the candidates have the priority of being accepted in accordance with their Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES), undergraduate cumulative grade point, the result of written and/or practice exam or Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS) / Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) respectively.

Programs Of Doctorate And Proficiency In Arts

Masters degree with at least 2.50/ 4.00 grade point average (gpa) is required to be able to apply for doctorate programs; as to proficiency in arts, applicants are required to have a masters degree in relevant branches of arts or certificate of equivalence that is provided by Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
Except for preparatory classes, the graduates of the faculty of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary and education that provide at least five or six-year education and applicants who have speciality power in a laboratory branch in accordance with the principles set by Ministry of Health are allowed to apply for the doctorate programs without having masters degree. With respect to this article, it is required that applicants should have at least 2.50/ 4.00 grade point average (gpa) to be able to apply for the doctorate programs.
Applicants are supposed to have 70.00 score and above in relevant kind of score to the program that is applied for in Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) or they are required to have an equivalent score in such exams accreditation of which is approved by Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK). However, a score in Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) is not a must for applicants who apply for some branches of arts of graduate schools that are stated by senate.
Applicants are required to have 55.00 score and above in Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS)/ Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) for application after getting masters degree; 80.00 score and above or an equivalent score in such exams accreditation of which is approved by Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK) is needed to apply for the doctorate program after getting bachelor degree and the program of proficiency in arts.
Applicants who apply for the programs that are provided in a foreign language are required to have 70.00 score and above in Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS)/ Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) or an equivalent score in such exams accreditation of which is approved by Turkish Council of Higher Education.
For the programs at foreign languages department, it is required to have at least 55.00 score in another foreign language apart from their own program in Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS)/ Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS). For applicants who scored at least 80.00 and above in the foreign language relevant to their own program in Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS)/ Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS), a score in another language is not needed as a requirement to be accepted to the doctorate program. However, the requirement getting at least 55.00 score in another language in Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS)/ Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) should be fulfilled before proficiency examination.

Success Points to be accepted to the doctorate of philosophy (PhD) and proficiency in arts programs

The number of applicants to be accepted to take the written and practical examinations is restricted to three times the quota announced. The points obtained from the sum of 50 % of the result of Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) or its equivalent, 15 % of the result of Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS)/Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) or its equivalent, 15 % of the grade point average of the graduate/masters programs, are arranged starting from the highest.
The success point to be accepted to the PhD program is calculated by adding 50 % of the result of Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) or its equivalent, 15 % of the result of Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS)/Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) or its equivalent, 15 % of the grade point average of the graduate/masters programs, and 20% of the result of the written and/or practical examination to be conducted.
The success point to be accepted to proficiency in arts is calculated by adding 50 % of the result of Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) or its equivalent, 10 % of the result of Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS)/Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) or its equivalent, 10 % of the grade point average of the graduate/masters programs, and 30% of the result of the written and/or practical examination to be conducted.
The success point to be accepted to the departments and fields of general arts/science/arts without the condition of Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) points is calculated by adding 20 % of the result of Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS)/Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) or its equivalent, 30 % of the grade point average of the graduate/masters programs, and 50% of the result of the written and/or practical examination to be conducted.
The points obtained this way are put in order starting from the highest and the number of registrations are limited to the quota announced. The success points below 70 are considered unsuccessful. In the event that the success points are equal, the candidate whose Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES), grade point average of the graduate/masters programs, written and/or practical examination or Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS)/Interuniversity Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS) points are highest respectively is prioritized. The candidates who have not taken the exam are not evaluated.

DOCTORATE OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD) BASED ON BACHELOR’S DEGREE

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with a grade point average of at least 3.50/4.00 to be able to apply for the postgraduate PhD program and they must have a bachelor’s degree or a certificate of equivalence which has been given by the Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK) to apply for proficiency in arts. They must have a result of at least 85.00 on Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) or equivalent points on equivalent examinations permitted by the Turkish Council of Higher Education. However, Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) is not compulsory for candidates who apply for certain fields of general arts/arts of institutes which have been determined by the Senate.

FOREIGN STUDENTS’ ACCEPTANCE TO POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMS

Foreign students are included in programs within the quota, methods and principles determined by the institute board of directors on condition that they have a bachelor’s diploma or master’s diploma, the equivalent of which has been permitted by the Turkish Council of Higher Education and they fulfill the conditions determined by the institute board of directors.
It is obligatory for foreign students to hand in to the institute their bachelor’s diplomas or master’s diploma with both the original and the translated (Turkish) and certified copy of their transcript and a document received by TÖMER or an equivalent institution showing that their Turkish is sufficient to be able to enroll in the program. Candidates applying for programs conducted in foreign languages are not obliged to hand in a Turkish language proficiency document.
Foreign governmental scholarship students and contracted students who come to Turkey with a signed protocole with the Republic of Turkey, a bilateral agreement, the European Union Harmonization Program, student exchange programs and similar agreements are accepted without any further condition.
For Exchange Students:
The applications regarding Erasmus and Farabi student exchange programs are applied within the scope of principles of guidelines that are defined by the applicable legislation and Senate of University.
