Comprehension of the mathematical and mechanical aspects of the theory of elasticity.
Applications of the theory of elasticity to static and dynamic problems concerning linear elastic and hyperelastic solids.

 -- MODE OF DELIVERY
  The mode of delivery of this course is face to face.
 --WEEKLY SCHEDULE
1. Week  Introduction basic mathematics relevant to the theory of elasticity.
2. Week  Second order and higher order tensors.
3. Week  Continuum kinematics, motion of particles, Lagrange and Euler definitions of motion.
4. Week  Finite deformation, deformation gradient tensor, other tensors of finite deformation and small deformation.
5. Week  1st. Midterm Exam
6. Week  Force and stress tensors in an elastic continuum. Characteristic values and directions of stress tensor.
7. Week  Partial differential equations of motion and equation of elastic bodies. Conservation of mass, linear momentum and angular momentum
8. Week  Cauchy stress, 1st. and 2nd. Piola-Kichoff stress tensors. Plane stress problems.
9. Week  Constitutive equations of hyperelastic and linear elastic solids. St Venant-Kirchhoff materials, Mooney-Rivlin materials, Ciarlet-Geymonat materials.
10. Week  Isotropic tensors and linear isotropic solids. Lame constants.
11. Week  2nd. Midterm Exam
12. Week  Derivation of Navier equations and Beltrami-Michell equations.
13. Week  Plane stress and plane strain problems. Examples of static and dynamic problems.
14. Week  Airy stress function. 2 dimensional problems in rectangular coordinates.
15. Week  2 dimensional problems in polar coordinates. Stress concentrations.
