To be able to explain what is linguistics and main field of linguistics.
To be able to make firm main differences between linguistics and classical grammar, philology.
To be able to explain linguistic theories.
To propound main differences approaches on languages between linguistics and classical grammar.
To be able to develop the ability to write, read and evaluate linguistics related topics.

1. Week  What is the linguistics? Definition, objectives and methods of linguistics.
2. Week  History of linguistics.
3. Week  Main ecoles: Geneva and Copenhagen.
4. Week  American structuralism.
5. Week  Noam Chomsky and transformative generative grammar.
6. Week  Transformative generative grammar and practises in Turkish.
7. Week  Branches of linguistics: Phonetics and phonology, acoustic phonetics, physiological phonetics, articulatory phonetics.
8. Week  Midterm Exam
9. Week  Changes of sounds, developmental linguistics, acoustic phonetics, (functional) phonology, morphophonetics.
10. Week  Morphology: new approaches.
11. Week  Syntax. Relation between morphology and syntax of Turkish.
