In this course, students will learn about the fundamental solid-state phase transformations in metals and alloys and they will make own evaluation and judgment in their scientific studies in the light of this information.

1. Week  An Introduction to solid-state phase transformation in metals alloys, Interfaces and identification of interfaces, Classification of interfaces
2. Week  Interface faults in crystal structures, Surface free energy, Wetting, and wetting angle.
3. Week  Coherent, semi-coherent and incoherent interfaces.
4. Week  Diffusion, Diffusion types, Diffusion Mechanims.
5. Week  Fick's Laws, Activation energies.
6. Week  Relationship between diffusion and temperature, Diffusion controlled transformations.
7. Week  Diffusion controlled growth, Johnson-Mehl-Avrami equation.
8. Week  Midterm Exam
9. Week  Nucleation and growth of precipitations, Precipitation strengthening in solid solutions.
10. Week  Dislocation-precipitation interactions, Precipitation and particles growth, Spinodal decomposition.
11. Week  Ostwald Ripening, Massive Transformation.
12. Week  Time-Temperature-Transformation (TTT) diagram,Eutectoid transformation and Control of Eutectoid Transformation.
