Development of insight and a creative approach to the social dimenison of architectural sustainability
Acquiring the skill to integrate social and economic planning principles into archittectural design decicions.
Social sustainability problem in architectural design, structuring spaces for common action and increasing activity levels,
questionning the private - common use spaces for communal meaning and use,
exporing the most inspiring and creative architectural design examples of sustaining sociability,
exploring and analysing the everyday social life in a given settlement and their reflections on architectural space as existing and needed,
discussing the possible renovation scenarios and proposing sustainable solutions for enlarging and displaced communities.

  The mode of delivery of this course is Face to face. The final presentations and researches may be conducted in group working.

  There is no prerequisite or co-requisite for this course.

 --COURSE CONTENT
1. Week  Introduction to the concept of sustainality in architecture, its development and prospects.
2. Week  Discussions on the readings on the meanings of place, meaning in architecture and its relation to the concept of sustainability.
3. Week  Discussions on the relationship between meaning and social sustainability, introducing the components of social sustainability.
4. Week  Discussions on the permissiveness of spaces, questioning the public private boundaries.
5. Week  Introduction to the concept of urban sustainability, with its economic, cultural and social dimensions for its impacts on architectural design.
6. Week  Decisions on the case areas to be studied individually or in groupwork, depicting a renovation area and explainng the social sustainability handicaps
7. Week  Presenting the present and potential modes of connecting people through spatial structures.
8. Week  Presenting the examinations on the work-leisure habits of the inhabitans of the neighborhoods under study.
9. Week  Mid-term exam and Idea proposals for the selected neighborhoods.
10. Week  Resarching for close or potential solutions for the depicted problems on social sustainability.
11. Week  Presenting scenarios for the future handicaps of the so assumed sustained neighborhoods.
12. Week  Defining a code of architecrtural design strategies to achieve sustainability in social interaction, health, and recreation.
13. Week  Identifying the spatial charactersitcs for a potential architectural design study on the selected environment.
