The participant has knowledge about structural stability. The terms such as "collapse mode" and "plastic hinge formation" are introduced.
The participant will have information about the deficiencies of the load-bearing systems and the members.
Information is provided on generally accepted methods for some types of deficiency.

 --WEEKLY SCHEDULE
1. Week  Introduction of materials used in structural design. Presentation of information about the intended use. Introduction to mechanical properties of concrete, steel, and wood. and material models. Behavior differences against effects such as time or load.
2. Week  Introduction of material models developed for concrete, steel and wood. Behavior differences against effects such as time or load.
3. Week  Information is given about composite section behavior. Importance of reinforcement in reinforced concrete cross-section. Discussion of reinforcement arrangement.
4. Week  Cracking in reinforced concrete members. Concept of ductility and brittleness. Importance of energy dissipation on the member behavior

6. Week  Classification and introduction of structural load-bearing systems.
7. Week  Midterm exam. Plastic hinge formation and stability of load bearing systems.
