This lesson examines the economic analysis of the process of innovation. After successfully completing the course the student be able to;
-identify and analyse key challenges of innovation processes -understand of innovation processes, including aspects which relate the technological ch

  Basic and intermediate-level macro-microeconomics are the pre-requisites for this course

 --COURSE CONTENT
1. Week  Methodology: The definition and importance of innovation economics, technological change and its economic implications.
2. Week  A historical analysis of technological change Kondratiev waves, Schumpeter's approach
3. Week  5th Kondratiev wave; New economy, major topics. Moore’s law.
4. Week  A knowledge implicit - explicit knowledge, knowledge as a production factor, as a product, knowledge-intensive sectors and their characteristics.
5. Week   Supply-side economies of scale, fixed costs and increasing returns, spillovers of knowledge and non-rivalry characteristics
6. Week  Demand Side Economies of Scale, network externalities, Metcalfe's law, compatibility ,path dependence, sales and marketing
7. Week  Competition, market structure and innovation spillovers and firm strategies. The interaction between technological change and industrial structure
8. Week  Positive feedbacks of knowledge intensive industries causes of market failures, the effect of consumer surplus, marginal cost pricing
9. Week  Natural monopolies, the behaviour of firms within digital marketplace and the different forms that competition can take. Core issues and debate in ant
10. Week  Nature of competition, changes in market shares of the software industry, a case study on Microsoft. Litigation, network effects, scale economies
11. Week   The new economy and financial markets; financial innovations, money and capital market, internet banking, electronic exchange markets
12. Week  The relationship between financial innovations and the recent financial crisis. Channels of influence, stability of financial markets
13. Week  Electronic money; definition and scope, current situation and future prospects, the monetary transmission mechanism.
14. Week  The financing of entrepreneurship, venture capital, business angels.
15. Week  Technological progress and growth; basic neoclassical growth model, growth accounting, endogenous growth models.
16. Week  Globalization, technology, innovations in developing countries. New economy and Turkey.
