Dilbilimsel çözümlemeye ilişkin temel kavramları açıklar. Dil ailelerinin karakteristik özelliklerini ayırt eder. Dillerin ses, biçim, sözdizimi ve anlam bakımından özelliklerini ayırt eder.
Dilbilim ve filoloji arasındaki ilişkiyi kurar.
Yapısal dilbilimin öncülerini tanır.
Yapısal dilbilimin ekollerini açıklar.
