Introduction to field work and learn how to do field work

 --COURSE CONTENT
1. Week  Rules of working in the laboratory and safety
2. Week  Materials, equipment and instruments used in the laboratory
3. Week  Report and lab hand-out writing, characteristics of scientists, scientific information and resources; accessing the resources.
4. Week  Solutions and their preparation. Serial dilution, experimental errors, data collection and scientific presentation of the data using graphs.
5. Week  Invited scientific seminar presentation. Visit to the Museum of Natural History (MTA museum).
6. Week  Acids, bases and pH scale. Polysaccharide determination with the lugol reagent, qualitative protein determination in milk.
7. Week  Experimental animals. Selecting the suitable animal model for the planned experiments.
8. Week  Midterm exam
9. Week  Organ and animal dissections. Preparation and fixing of dissected tissues for histological preparations.
10. Week  Preparation of the histological specimens using the parrafin technique. Microscopic study. Preparations for the microscobic cultures and growth.
11. Week  Microscobic organisms. Culture preparation and investigation of bacterial, Protist and green algal cultures.
12. Week  Field excursion.
13. Week  Selecting the suitable plant material for the planned experiments. Collection and pressing plant material. Visit to the herbarium.
14. Week  Using Drosophila as a model organism in genetics. Population genetics (application of the Hardy-Weinberg law).
15. Week  Sepataion of some food dyes with electrophoresis.
16. Week  Presentation of the student groups' nature video documentaries.
