General Information
Faculty of Arts was firstly established as the Faculty of Statistics and the Basic Sciences connected with the School of Economics and Administrative Sciences in the 1978 – 1979 academic year at Gazi University; however, with the acceptance of the 41st delegated legislation of Act 2809 relating Higher Education Institutions in 1982, it was founded as Faculty of Arts and Sciences. On the 11th of February 2011, with the 2010/1371 Cabinet Decree the Faculties of Sciences and Arts were separated and thus they became two distinct faculties.The Faculty of Arts consists of the following departments:Philosophy, History, Turkish Language and Literature, Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures, Western Languages and Literatures ( English Language and Literature, French Language and Literature and German Language and Literature), Russian Language and Literature, Archaeology, Turkish Folklore, Sociology and Psychology. There are 42 professors, 34 associate professors, 39 assistant professors, 14 instructors, and 60 research assistants. Students’ education lasts four years. Some students attend the preparatory course if they do not obtain the required grade for starting their education in the Department of the Western Languages and Literatures. Students are taught in Turkish. In the departments of History, Turkish Language and Literature, Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures, evening classes are carried out as well as the day time classes.
