The instituation was first founded in 1926under the name of “Orta Muallim Mektebi ve Terbiye Enstitüsü” (SecondaryTeaching Institute), providing a four-year history education program.

According to the new regulations oneducational faculties, the deparment has become a part of the department ofSecondary Education Social Sciences Teaching together with the programs ofHistory, Geography and Philosophy.

The program provides a total of 4 years.The ones who complete the first two years (4 semesters) could get onundergraduate degree, and the ones who complete the first 4 years (8 semesters)could get a graduate degree.

The number of students accepted to theprogram ranges 20 students.

The graduates of the program could work asTurkish Language and Literature Teachers in various schools, they could alsowork as instructors, lecturers and research assistants in related departmentsat universities. Moreover, the graduates could get their M.A. and PhD degreesfrom the instutions of Educational Sciences and the instutions of EducationalSciences and the instutions of social sciences at Gazi University.
